BancorpSouth and First South Bank join the Southwest Tennessee Development District and the Tennessee Housing Development Agency in making available grants to homeowners, over 60 years of age, for emergency repairs.

Generally the repairs to be considered for the Emergency Repair Program include roofs, electric, septic tanks, plumbing, heating/air systems, and structural repairs to walls or floors..

The program is designed to make basic repairs to maintain a home’s livability. It is not a comprehensive rehabilitation program.

BancorpSouth is providing $23,000 and First South Bank has donated $10,000 to help match the $200,000 provided by the state legislature and the Tennessee Housing Development for the first year of this program.

SWTDD is very appreciative of BancorpSouth and First South Bank joining us in this effort to address a serious problem facing our elderly residents.

Southwest Tennessee’s Executive Committee decided to concentrate the funds in the first year on Haywood and Hardeman County, two or the eight counties in Southwest Tennessee which are considered economically-depressed counties.

Development District officials have already held public meetings in both counties in order to explain the program and to pass out applications. Applications were accepted through March 15. Eligibility includes age – being over sixty years, low income depending on household size, and home ownership.

Contractors, who are interested in participating in the repair program, and individuals who have questions are invited to contact the Development District at 731-668-6402 or 731-668-6420.
