02/15/2008

HENDERSON, Tenn. – Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen and Commissioner of Economic and Community Development Matt Kisber joined Arvin Sango, Inc. today in announcing it will locate a new manufacturing facility in Henderson, Tenn. The automotive parts manufacturing company will build exhaust systems for the Toyota Highlander SUV model slated for production at Toyota’s newest assembly plant in northern Mississippi, currently under construction.

“Tennessee lies at the heart of a growing southern automotive industry,” said Governor Bredesen. “Toyota and its supply chain companies represent a significant source of good paying jobs for Tennesseans. We’re pleased to add Arvin Sango to the list of highly respected companies in Tennessee’s automotive manufacturing sector.”

The plant is a $10 million investment for the company and is anticipated to create 40 new jobs in Henderson. This is the fourth North American plant for the company, with the other facilities being located in Madison, Ind.; Merced, Calif.; Campbellsburg, Ky. More than 900 automotive assembly and component parts manufacturing companies operate in Tennessee, employing more than 85,000 Tennesseans.

“I’m grateful to Arvin Sango for their investment in our state,” said Matt Kisber, commissioner, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. “Through our discussions with both Toyota and Arvin Sango in recent years, we realize the value companies place on Tennessee’s strong business climate. Governor Bredesen and I are committed to improving that business climate and developing a well trained world class workforce in Tennessee so that companies like Arvin Sango can operate in Tennessee productively and profitably.”

Arvin Sango supplies more than 65 percent of the exhaust systems used by Toyota Motor Company plants in North America. The company’s plants also manufacture stampings, manifolds, converter systems, instrument panels and door impact beams for the automotive industry.

Dan Baughman, executive vice president of Arvin Sango, Inc. said, “Locating in Henderson, Tenn., will allow Arvin Sango to efficiently serve our customers. The community’s quality workforce and readily available infrastructure made this location a logical choice. We appreciate the positive working relationship already demonstrated by the local community and look forward to a prosperous partnership.”

The Henderson facility is planned to break ground this spring and is scheduled to open by early 2009.

“We are extremely proud and excited to have Arvin Sango choose Henderson for its Tennessee home,” said Eddy Patterson, mayor of Henderson, Tenn. “Many people in our community commute to surrounding counties each day for work. It’s my goal to recruit quality companies and jobs like this to offer to our local workforce, and I’m glad to have Arvin Sango join our local business family.”

Arvin Sango, Inc. is a 50/50 joint venture between EMCON Technologies, Inc., based in Troy, Mich. and Sango Company, Ltd., based in Aichi-Ken, Japan. Arvin Sango, Inc. was formed with the signing of a joint venture agreement in December 1986.
